Befriended Community Choir
Singing is good for the soul!
We come together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere to enjoy a sing-along of well-known musical hits, hymns, and old-time classics. Whether you're a seasoned singer or just love to join in, our wonderful choirmaster, Ira, makes sure everyone feels included and has a great time. It's more than just singing—it's a place to connect, laugh, and lift our spirits. Tea, coffee, and cakes are served.
About the Befriended Choir
-
Many people experience loneliness or lack opportunities to take part in enjoyable, social activities. This can affect confidence, mood, and overall wellbeing.
Creative activities like singing are known to boost mental health, but can feel inaccessible to those who lack confidence or experience.
-
Reduce loneliness through shared activity
Boost mood and emotional wellbeing
Build confidence and self-expression
Create a sense of belonging and community
Provide a fun and uplifting experience
-
This choir is for older people, family members and carers who:
Enjoys music or would like to try singing
Is looking for a fun, social activity
Wants to build confidence in a supportive space
Would like to connect with others
Everyone is welcome — regardless of ability or experience.
-
Group sessions
Led by an experienced choir leader and Befriended activities leader
Weekly sessions during term time
Informal, inclusive and fun
No auditions or prior experience needed
Optional opportunities to perform (if you want to)
-
Participants experience improved mood, increased confidence and stronger social connections. Singing stimulates memory, supports cognitive wellbeing and brings moments of joy, particularly for those living with dementia. Many develop lasting friendships, regain a sense of purpose and look forward each week to belonging to a caring and supportive community.
